Yorkie Puppies: The Breed You Have Been Looking For

Pets & Animals Blog

A Yorkshire terrier, often called a Yorkie, is one of the most popular purebred dogs in the United States. If you ever notice that there are Yorkie puppies for sale in your area, you should act fast if you want one. Yorkie puppies are often sold quickly. This is due to the fact that Yorkies have many distinguished qualities including but not limited to:

Their Size

Yorkies are generally 8-9 inches tall at the shoulder, while their ideal weight is between 4 and 6 lbs. In a word, these dogs are tiny, and that is when they are full grown! Yorkshire Terrier puppies are very very small. As such, if you are someone who lives in a small house or apartment, this is the perfect dog for you. Yorkies are often used as companion dogs, often going along with their owners in bags and purses, though this is not required.

Their Heritage

Yorkshire is part of Northern England, which is where this dog originates. It was originally bred from many breeds of small terriers that came from Scotland. In the 1800s, Yorkies made their way over to America with their owners, where this breed became incredibly popular. American's loved Yorkies because of their agility and small size, making them perfect for keeping pests and rodents out of their homes and factories.  The Yorkshire Terrier remains one of the Top 10 breeds of the American Kennel Club.

Their Personality

It has been said that Yorkies have the personality of a big dog in a little dog's body. As adults, Yorkies are often confident and enjoy pleasing their owners with small tasks. They are relatively easy to train compared to most other breeds and are quite intelligent. While they are often used as lap dogs, Yorkies are actually quite busy and enjoy being useful. Training should begin early, since sometimes they can be territorial, and may get aggressive with other dogs. It is almost as if they do not recognize just how small they really are. Yorkies can be incredibly compassionate, which is why many people choose them for emotional service animals. Talk to your doctor or emotional health professional if you think you may use a Yorkie for this purpose.

In conclusion, you will likely find that if you like small dogs a Yorkie is what you have been looking for. They are easy to train, loyal, and beautiful dogs, which will be a great addition to your home, family, and life.

Adding Pets To Your Family

When I was growing up, I had a dog that I absolutely adored. We did everything together. From running and playing outside to spending time together in the house, she really felt like a friend who loved and cared about me. Unfortunately, she passed on when she was about ten years old, and it was really difficult for me. I realized that I wanted to get a new dog after that, so I started looking for a business that could help. I started going from pet store to vet clinic to see if anyone had an animal that needed a home, and I found an animal that I really loved. Check out this blog for great information on pet ownership.
