2 Things to Do When Bringing Your New Puppy Home

Pets & Animals Blog

When you get a new puppy, you need to ensure that they have a safe and happy place to come when you bring them home. Leaving their family can be hard on a puppy, and being in a new space with many new smells, sounds, and people might overwhelm them. You can do several things that will help your puppy's first few days be as happy and stress-free as possible.

1. Create a Den

One of the things you can do is create a safe den where your puppy can go to sleep and hide if necessary. If you plan on crate training your dog, this can be a good time to start. What you are looking for is warm, dark, soft, and relatively small. Your puppy will want to have a space that they know is safe, and a smaller space will be that. You can get a cardboard box, fill it with old blankets, towels, or t-shirts, and put a blanket over part of it, creating a cave-like space. If you are worried that the puppy will be cold, you can get a hot water bottle, fill it with warm water, and wrap it up in a towel. That will help warm the space and let the puppy curl up with something nice and warm.

2. Slow Introductions

Another thing that you can do to help your puppy be happy in your house is to introduce them to slowly all the denizens of your home. This is especially true if you already have other pets. If you have young children, make sure that they know to be very careful and gentle with the new puppy. It would be really easy for your new puppy to accidentally hurt your children or for your children to accidentally hurt your puppy. A happy lifelong bond can get started really well, as long as the introductions go well, which means paying attention to the puppy and if they appear to be stressed out over the people being introduced to them.

If you are going to get a new puppy, you want to make sure that you are doing everything you can to make sure that they are going to be safe, healthy, and happy. That starts from the very beginning of having your puppy. Remember that your new puppy is still a baby and will be both excited and anxious about being in a new place. Adding Pets To Your Family

When I was growing up, I had a dog that I absolutely adored. We did everything together. From running and playing outside to spending time together in the house, she really felt like a friend who loved and cared about me. Unfortunately, she passed on when she was about ten years old, and it was really difficult for me. I realized that I wanted to get a new dog after that, so I started looking for a business that could help. I started going from pet store to vet clinic to see if anyone had an animal that needed a home, and I found an animal that I really loved. Check out this blog for great information on pet ownership.
